And all the windows stood weeping As I walked out into the lane And how the earth started seeping As if it couldn’t bear the rain And all the colours were stolen That even black had turned to grey And how the rain-clouds were swollen With thoughts of vanquishing the day And all the townsmen turned violent Their deepest bitterness revealed And how the chapels fell silent Their doors were bolted and sealed And all the barrows were bursting With every soul I ever knew And how the wakers were thirsting For something meaningful to do And all the swallows were starting To shake the dust off from their wings And how the trees mourned their parting They sorrowed deep within their rings And all the windows stood weeping As I walked out into the lane And how the earth started seeping As if it couldn’t bear the rain

I’ve been avoiding A thought shaped like her It’s not rewarding It’s not one to share It’s a suggestion I should probably leave well alone I’m not one to moan Why’m I recording This song of regret? I don’t know, man Just for a geg? Maybe I should stop now Before I open old wounds It’s probably a waste of a tune. See what you did there? You dodged it again. You let yourself go there To hide from the pain But when you most expect it True love will kick you when you’re down - oh! how her eyes were brown.

The smell of dry dust burning From a five dollar heater Fills the room with a certain comfort. Outside the rain is falling With ice and snow and hail commingled; But here I am safe from winter storms. It's been a long time since I've seen the summer It's always winter, rarely Christmas: I wouldn't call myself content. I am a lonely sparrow. I have the briefest moment Of comfort within these homely walls. I pass from winter into winter.

Gonna take it nice and easy gonna take it nice and slow Don't need a lot of money Don't need a lot of dough Cause I'm moving to Montreal Moving to Montreal Gonna get myself an academic job Cause I'm moving to Montreal Gotta get out of the country Gotta get into the snow Gotta get back to Canada Why, I just don't know Cause I'm moving to Montreal Moving to Montreal Gonna get myself an academic job Cause I'm moving there in the Fall If not in the Fall, maybe in a couple of summers' time If not then, some other time. Cause I'm moving to Montreal Moving to Montreal Gonna get myself an academic job Cause I'm moving to Montreal Won't care about nothing at all Cause I'm moving to Montreal Everybody needs somewhere to fall They all wanna move to Montreal Everybody needs somewhere to fall They all wanna move to Montreal
